Keto, Paleo, Whole30 Burnout: 10 Tips for Staying on Track with your Low Carb Diet

diet burnout

If you have a weight loss goal and you’re on a journey to hit that target with the help of a low carb diet, there are bound to be highs and lows along the way. It’s not easy to drop pounds, and you may have times when you question whether you can actually follow the plan and reach your goal weight. If you’re stuttering or finding life tough on the Keto, Paleo or Whole 30 diet, here are 10 top tips to keep you motivated.

1. Find a friend

We all know that life is more manageable when you’ve got some moral support. If you’re finding it hard to stay on track with a diet, get your friends and family involved. If everyone is eating clean, you should find it much easier to stay focused and reach your targets.

2. Look at that ‘before’ photo

For many of us, a picture speaks a thousand words. If seeing old photos of you prompted you to change your diet and try and shed those extra pounds, keep that picture close to you. If you have a wobble and you can’t muster up the enthusiasm to continue, take a look at that snap before you throw the towel in. Photos can be an excellent way of showing you how far you’ve come.

3. Write a list

If you’re struggling for motivation, write a list of all the reasons why you want to lose weight. Do you want to improve your health? Do you want to feel more confident? Are you desperate to be more active with your kids? Are you fed up of feeling low when you look in the mirror? If you’re thinking of giving up your low carb diet, read this list and remember why you wanted to give it a go in the first place.

4. Treat yourself

Most people who are on a low carb diet have a long-term goal, but it’s also really useful to celebrate minor milestones you hit on your way. If you’ve reached a target, reward yourself. Perhaps you’ve been hankering after a new top or a new set of golf clubs, for example, or maybe you fancy a night at the movies. Whatever your interests, treat yourself. This will give you the motivation to push yourself.

5. Be sociable

If you’re trying to lose weight, you’re definitely not alone. There are millions of people out there who are in exactly the same boat. If you need a pep talk or some reassurance, be sociable on forums and groups online or join a support group in the local community.

6. Keep busy

Many of us find that we struggle with dieting when we have too much time on our hands. If you’re busy, you may not even have time to think about food, let alone start craving all those carb-laden delights you can’t have. Work hard and make the most of your leisure time.

7. Try on your clothes

Have you got old clothes you’ve been keeping in the faint hope that one day, you’ll be able to fit in them again? If so, use this as a source of inspiration. Keep trying and see how much closer you’re getting each week. It’s also useful to try on clothes that you were wearing when you started the diet to see how many inches you’ve lost.

8. Focus on the foods you can have

Dieting is much harder when you think about what you can’t have, rather than the foods you can enjoy.

9. Be prepared

If you’re a grazer or you used to rely on takeouts, be more organized. Prepare low carb snacks and meals in advance to save you time and eliminate cravings.

10. Switch up your social activities

If socializing used to mean eating your bodyweight and drinking, it’s time to rethink your social activities. Swap restaurants and nights in front of the TV with fast food for ice skating, hiking, cycling, swimming, going bowling or hitting the beach.

If you’re on a low carb mission to lose weight, hopefully, this guide will help you reach those targets. Good luck!
